THE Qatar Postal Services Company (Q-Post) on Monday issued a special collection of Amiri stamps to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani's assumption of power.
The launching of the new collection was attended by Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim bin Saif al Sulaiti along with other high-level dignitaries and officials.
"This is a very special occasion to us all, five years of remarkable achievements on different levels, economic, political and scientific and others under the leadership of HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani," the minister said.
He added that the stamp collection is essential as it documents an important moment in the history of Qatar.
Commenting on the progress Q-Post has witnessed recently, he said Q-Post has achieved a significant jump in the services it provides recently and large scale reform in all its services.
Traditionally, Q-Post releases postage stamps to mark and document historic events that happen in the country. The new collection released on Monday includes a set of three stamps featuring the image of HH the Amir.
Designer Abdel Latif Zayan designed three distinctive stamps which are valued at QR25 each. Q-Post will print 5,000 stamps of each design.
In his speech, Chairman of Q-Post Faleh al Naemi praised the visionary leadership of HH the Amir.
"We are proud of what we have achieved as a nation. However, we all know that last year was an exceptional year for our country. Thankfully, under the wise leadership of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, we succeeded in overcoming most challenges in an effective and stimulating way. Our country today has been taken to new frontiers under his directions and guidance," Naemi said.
Khalid Rustom, head of Philatelic and Museum at Q-Post, said:"Postage stamps are historically used to document events and preserve memories to be cherished by future generations. This special collection of HH the Amir's stamps symbolises power, dignity and unity of our people. Let's use them with a high sense of pride."
The stamps can be purchased with the first day cover valued at QR80 and will go on sale at QR25 each.
