Qatar Rail is conducting an online survey among parents of select schools to find out viability of shifting 'school trips' from existing mode of transportation to Metro network that is expected to launch soon.
In a notice circulated among the students in select schools, Qatar Rail said the feedback of the public is important as it will help them develop a state-of-the-art Metro network that will encourage the use of public transport in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Qatar Rail's Doha Metro Network consisting of Red, Green and Gold Lines will start operations in the near future.
"All the responses to the survey will take approximately 5 minutes and the identity of the responder will remain anonymous. The survey will run till June 30," the notice said.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, a parent at DPS-Modern Indian School said,"The survey conducted by Qatar Rail is very important as safety and transportation cost are major concerns for many of the parents. The survey will help Qatar Rail to improve its service offering maximum convenience, safety and cost-effective transportation for schoolchildren."
The questionnaire includes 16 queries such as students' age and grade, location of residence, current mode of transportation, time of students leaving for school and back home and how often student' travel to schools get delayed due to traffic jams.
QATAR Rail asks a question relating to use of metro network for transporting students in its final section: Consider that the Metro will provide a fast, reliable, safe and affordable connection to school compared to the current mode of transport, will the parent consider choosing Metro over the current mode for your child's transport to and from school?
If the answer of parent is 'Maybe or No' the survey asks to specify the reason(s) why the parent is not likely to let their children to use the Metro for his/her transport to and from school.
When contacted most of the parents said,"Metro network will be viable only when the Metro stations are connected with their residential areas with some other mode of public transportation network."
