ANOTHER power substation of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa), which will supply electricity to Al Wa'ab City Metro, is ready for operation.
Built at the cost of QR100 million, Al Wa'ab City Metro substation is the third of the five Kahramaa power substations that will supply electricity to Qatar Metro.
Announcing this at an event on Sunday, Kahramaa officials said that the remaining two power substations to supply electricity to Metro will be completed within a year in Doha (west) and Al Bidda. The entire cost of the Metro power substation project is QR700 million.
According to officials of Kahramaa, Doha West substation will be operational shortly and Al Bida substation, which also includes parking, will be operational in the second half of 2019.
It is worth mentioning here that Kahramaa had announced the operation of Ras Abu power substation in July, 2017, and the second one at Lusail in March, 2018.
Speaking on occasion, Head of Design and Engineering at Kahramaa Ahmad Ali al Kuwari said,"We are proud to provide the Doha Metro project with all its electricity needs. Despite the ongoing unjust siege imposed on Qatar by some of its neighbours, we completed the work within schedule. Besides, we are gearing up for future expansion."
The stations equipped with the latest technology will provide electricity to the Gold Line of Qatar Rail network.
Kahramaa prioritises Metro rail projects for the requirement of the highest quality and international standards.
The construction of Al Wa'ab City Metro station started in 2016. Having a capacity of 132/33 KV, it is part of the 12th phase of the electrical transmission network expansion in Qatar.
Kahramaa is keen to follow the highest standards of safety and security in all its activities and operations and has completed 816,000 working hours without injuries or accidents at Al Wa'ab City Metro station.
The event was attended by senior officials of Kahramaa and a team of engineers from the contracting company.
