Qatar Leadership Centre (QLC) and Georgetown University have announced an Executive Master's Degree programme in Leadership, Policy and Innovation. The nine-month programme will begin in September in Doha.
HE Sheikha al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, chairperson, QLC board of directors, said,"QLC was established by the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani to support and empower Qataris in various fields. This partnership with Georgetown and support from Qatar Foundation will further accelerate progress toward leadership excellence, enabling our country's nationals to reach further heights in fulfilling their potential. They represent the best of Qatar's bright future ” and this partnership goes a long way to creating the conditions for their success."
Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali al Thani, member of the board of directors and managing director of QLC, called the master's programme"an important addition to the learning landscape in Qatar, and the only programme of its kind in the Middle East."
Georgetown University president John J DeGioia remarked,"Through this agreement, we have sought to provide the best possible context for alumni of the Qatar Leadership Center to develop the skills and talents that will enable them to lead and manage effectively. Our ongoing engagement in Qatar remains integral to our work of becoming a global university, as we ensure that all of our students are fully prepared to be knowledgeable and compassionate global citizens and leaders."
Minister of Administration Development and Social Affairs, and member of QLC Board of Directors HE Dr Issa bin Saad al Jefali al Nuaimi termed this"an important milestone in Qatar's journey in developing a knowledge-based economy. Our business and government leaders have made remarkable strides in excelling across all industries. I have confidence that the new QLC master's programme will have a measurable impact in the region and beyond."
The customised master's programme will be offered to qualified QLC graduates who meet the admission criteria, and will build on expertise they have achieved through participation in QLC's National Leadership Programs.
"There are so many people to thank, starting with our country leader for his vision and support, to our colleagues at Qatar Foundation, Georgetown Qatar and Georgetown Washington for their ongoing commitment. The QLC executive management team has worked tirelessly on delivering this distinguished programme to foster the careers of our alumni," HE Sheikha al Mayassa concluded.
QLC graduates who successfully complete the new programme will have completed all modules held in Doha as well as the residency module in Washington, DC, and all required online coursework and other degree requirements before being awarded the Executive Master's in Leadership, a degree which will be conferred by Georgetown University. They will become members of Georgetown's global network of more than 178,000 alumni.
QLC Alumni Association Council President Khalifa al Kuwari observed that the Executive Master's Programme offers QLC alumni the opportunity"to take the next step in developing their leadership capabilities and earn a master's degree from a renowned university recognised for graduating world leaders, policy makers and innovators."
The degree will qualify alumni to contribute to the development, growth and prosperity of Qatar in important ways in the decades ahead, as it will reflect achievement in both theory and practice in areas of relevance to Qatar.
