Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science (QNCECS) plays a vital, positive and effective role in strengthening the status of locally and internationally through its fields of work which include education, culture, science, media and communication.
The committe also seeks to empower and support governmental and non-governmental institutions to make optimal use of programmes and activities provided by its partners in the regional, Arab and international organisations. It also aims to strengthen the role of Qatar in international, regional and Islamic forums by through its local and global partnerships.
The commission organises seminars, conferences and training courses to address many issues. It has extensive partnerships with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) in everything related to education, culture and science.
In statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Secretary-General of the commission Dr Hamda Hassan al Sulaiti said that the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, which is among the important sectors and priorities of the commission's work. The commission focuses on achieving this goal in Qatar through many plans, programmes and activities.
Since the launch of Education for All globally, Qatar has spared no effort in supporting and strengthening international and regional efforts to contribute to increasing children's access to education in all parts of the world, especially in situations of armed conflict and insecurity, Dr Hamda stressed, noting that Qatar has many well-known initiatives in this regard.
In order to contribute to the regional and international efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal for education, the commission produced a booklet that provides simplified information on the development goals, focusing on the fourth goal and its related objectives, Dr Hamda said.
Established in 1962, Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science plays an active role in achieving the objectives of the international organisations to which it has acceded and are consistent with the objectives of education in Qatar.
The commission implements its programmes and projects in cooperation and coordination with national, regional and international partners in order to promote citizenship, human rights, justice, human dignity and sustainable development.
In this context, the commission joined the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1972, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States and Yemen in 1975 and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) in 1982.
Dr Hamda underlined that the commission sees through these partnership to make Qatar's membership in regional, Arab and international organisation a successful investment that benefits all aspects of educational, scientific and cultural activity in the country and contributes to the national development process according to Qatar National Vision 2030.
