The Ministry of Economy and Commerce on Saturday waived the requirement to display identification plates at the entrances of homes that are used for commercial or industrial activities.
The waiver comes in accordance with Ministerial Decree number 163 of 2018 issued by Minister of Economy and Commerce HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed al Thani. According to the this law, commercial units operating out of homes are no longer required to display that fact at the entrances of such homes. It obviates the need for displaying the licence plates and bars advertising or promotional posters anywhere on the house or its outer walls. Flags and barcodes are also prohibited.
The new resolution amends certain provisions of Decree No. 242 of 2016 on the conditions, rules and procedures for the granting of temporary licences to businesses running out of homes.
The ministry said the amendment came at the request of the public. It is also aimed at providing incentives to people to set up small enterprises at homes.
The ministry also took into consideration the value Qatari society places on privacy and how the display of licence plates may be a discouraging factor for several families wanting to set up home-based businesses.
The ministry said that this decision comes within the framework of its commitment to regulate the business environment and create an investment environment conducive to the private sector and entrepreneurs.
