Doha The Moon Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced that Wednesday, May 16, is the last day of the month of Shaaban, and Thursday, May 17, will be the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan. This came in a statement issued by the committee after its meeting at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, chaired by Dr Sheikh Thaqeel al Shammari on Tuesday evening. The committee said the Ramadan moon was not sighted on Tuesday and announced that Wednesday is the final day of Sha'ban, and Thursday will be the first day of Ramadan. The committee extends greetings to the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, the Deputy Amir HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al Thani, as well as the Government, the people of Qatar and all Muslims, on the advent of Ramadan.
