Al Shahania High School were crowned School League 2017-18 champions after beating Tariq Bin Zeyad High School 5-4 following a penalty shootout after the match ended goalless at Doha Stadium on Monday 23 April.
Omar bin Abdulaziz on the other hand secured third place in the tournament after beating Khalifa High School 1-0. Ahmed Mohammed Abdulmahmoud scored the only goal of the match.
The final match and crowning ceremony was attended by Ibrahim Shaheen al Sulaiti, Vice Chairman of the Sub-Leagues Committee at the Qatar Football Association, Ali al Mahmoud, Head of Sport & Culture at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Sheikh Ahmad al Thani, Head of Sport Events at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Abdulrahman al Muftah, Executive Director of the Qatar School Sports Association (QSSA), Hamad al Mannai, QSSA board member, Nasser al Malki, QSSA board member, Saeed al Nabit, Al Shahania School Principal.
The awarding ceremony took place after the match in which Al Shahania High School football team received gold medals and the trophy, and a cash prize of QR40,000, while Tariq Bin Zeyad High School football team received silver medals and a cash prize of QR30,000 Qatari Riyals, and Omar Bin Abdulaziz High School football team received bronze medals and a cash prize of 20,000 Qatari Riyals.
Ibrahim Shaheen al Sulaiti, said:"We would like to congratulate all the three teams that made it this far, and specifically congratulate Al Shahania High School on winning the title and for being champions for the second time. The School League has achieved its objective which is to spread the culture of playing football among the youth at the high school level."
Al Sulaiti thanked the Qatar School Sports Association, Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy for their ongoing support of the School League that undoubtedly contributed to the success of the tournament this year.
In its fifth edition, the league is the product of a fruitful cooperation between the QFA and the QSSA as it is in line with both organisations' goals to instill a culture of football in society and among the youth. The league is under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
