Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs HE Dr Issa bin Saad al Jafali al Nuaimi will address the Second Conference on Occupational Safety and Health in the presence of representatives of a number of prominent international organisations concerned with workers' issues across the world.
The conference, which marks the International Day for Occupational Safety and Health on April 28, comes when Qatar is working to ensure its commitment to protecting the safety of workers at construction sites.
The conference will include distribution of Occupational Safety and Health Awards to a number of companies working on major projects in the country as well as distribution of gifts to workers at some construction sites while raising their awareness of the need to follow proper procedures at work.
High-level officials from the International Labor Organization (ILO), the Organization of Construction and Timber, World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) and the Office of Occupational Safety and Health in Britain are expected to attend the conference. More than 300 participants from home and abroad are expected to attend the event.
Mohammed bin Towar al Kuwari, vice-chairman of Qatar Chamber and chairman of the Occupational Safety and Health Awards Committee, has praised the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs in improving the conditions of expatriate workers.
A technical committee comprising experts from the ministry and the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has selected four companies to be honoured at the opening session of the conference at the St Regis Hotel. (TNN)
