SPEAKER of the Advisory Council HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al Mahmoud underlined that the State of Qatar, under the leadership of the Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, is always striving to achieve unity among countries and people, and calls for cooperation and solidarity between the Arab and African countries.
In order to achieve this goal, HH the Emir paid visits to several countries in East, South and West Africa to build broad partnerships in various fields and to support programs and development projects, Mahmoud said in his speech before the Arab-African Economic Parliamentary Forum which kicked off in Rabat on Wednesday.
He added that Qatar recognises the necessity of overcoming obstacles to achieving sustainable development and economic and political stability of the Arab and African regions, noting that Qatar has provided thousands of employment opportunities for young people and many projects to support development in a number of friendly countries.
He recalled the liberation of most of the Arab and African countries during the 1960s and 1970s, when the Arab and African countries united their efforts to face the common destiny in the struggle against the colonial powers and the Cold War.
Noting common challenges of instability, conflicts, wars, ignorance and poverty facing the Arab and African countries, he added:"As there was solidarity for political liberation, the efforts must be combined for economic liberalisation and overcoming the colonial legacy that controls our economies."
He called for directing investments and exports to neighbouring countries in the Arab and African regions.
