Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani opened the seventh edition of Cityscape Qatar 2018, an annual event showcasing the country's rapidly growing real estate sector, at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) on Sunday.
The PM met with representatives from some of the leading local and international developers, including Qatar Rail, United Development Company (UDC), Qatari Diar and Katara Hospitality.
The PM also toured the pavilions of the participating companies, starting with Qatar Rail, where he witnessed signing of agreements.
The PM then unveiled United Development Company's latest real estate project, Gewan Island. UDC's new project is expected to be completed by the end of 2021 and will accommodate 3,000 residents and 6,000 visitors, including working professionals, bringing the total number of daily visitors to 9,000.
Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim bin Saif al Sulaiti said Cityscape Qatar 2018 will contribute to supporting the national economy by promoting various development projects in real estate and other projects.
He said the exhibition enhances the role of the private sector as a key partner in sustainable development as it includes a number of companies offering the latest real estate projects and provides companies, businessmen and the private sector with the opportunity to engage in dialogue and dealings.
Sulaiti said the ministry is playing its part in supporting the country's plans to diversify the economy through a number of pioneering projects such as the rail and other infrastructure projects that include roads and bridges.
At the expo, Qatar Rail signed an agreement with Qatar Insurance Group for the first naming rights. The station naming rights is one of Qatar Rail's initiatives aimed at forming alliances with renowned local and international corporations and brands to promote their services at the stations and help reach wider market segments.
Speaking after the agreement signing event, Board Member of Qatar Insurance Group, Sheikh Saoud bin Khalid bin Hamad al Thani said the agreement will give QIC the naming rights of West Bay Station.
He said QIC will work with Qatar Rail to boost cooperation in the framework of corporate social responsibility and economic growth to achieve economic sustainability.
Qatar Rail also inked a deal with Qatar National Bank to appoint the bank as the official Acquirer Bank for all TravelCard and Fare Media payments.
The agreement will ensure that Qatar Rail will be able to accept payments made with all major credit and debit cards issued in Qatar and worldwide. Payments will be possible directly at the stations through the Travel Cards Vending Machines, on a dedicated web site, and through the mobile application.
Qatar Rail also signed an agreement with Ooredoo which will enable users to enjoy high-speed communication services with no interruptions during their journey through the stations and aboard the Lusail Tram.
