Five civilians, including a child, were killed when a vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province, local authorities said on Friday.
"Fourteen others were wounded"in the incident, which took place in the Haska Mina district at around 9 am (0430 GMT), a statement issued by the media office of the Nangarhar provincial governor said.
According to the statement, two children and two women were among those injured. Haska Mina is one of the few areas in the country where the Islamic State terrorist militia is holding territory, beside the Taliban.
So-called improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are a major cause of civilian casualties in the war-torn country.
Insurgents hide IEDs on roads targeting security forces, but most of the time the bombs kill or maim civilians. According to a report by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), 763 civilians were killed and 1,495 others injured in the country between 1 January and 31 March.
