Minister of Municipality and Environment HE Mohamed bin Abdullah al Rumaihi has said the local production during the siege period has increased 300 percent.
"This excellent ratio has prompted the ministry to expand the sources of sales and marketing to cover the remarkable increase in production," Rumaihi said.
He hoped that the production level would go up from 40 to 50 percent over the year.
Rumaihi said this during his meeting with farm owners, livestock breeders, and owners of fish farms and nature reserves
He said the focus on local production is meant to increase self-reliance and self-sufficiency.
He thanked owners of local farms for their outstanding contribution to supporting the local market during the unjust siege imposed on Qatar since June last year.
The exceptional circumstances experienced by the state and the concerted efforts by the siege countries to prevent companies from exporting their products to Qatar resulted in marked increase in agricultural production, livestock and fisheries, he noted.
Rumaihi said the ministry is seeking to provide all support to the farm owners and breeders of halal to achieve the desired goal.
He said the ministry has allocated QR105 million as support for the agricultural sector in 2018 budget to achieve food security. In addition, QR70 million has been allocated for the next five years.
Rumaihi thanked the owners of nature reserves for their efforts in preserving the environment and its sustainability.
Rumaihi listened to the views and proposals of farmers and breeders on the most important needs and targeted support they want ” from developing agricultural production and the best ways to expand methods to market local products.
The minister honoured the farm owners, livestock breeders, owners of fish farms and nature reserves.
