AS part of its Accessible Qatar initiative, Sasol, the international integrated chemicals and energy company, supported the winter camp of the deaf community in Qatar, organised by the Qatari Center of Social Cultural for the Deaf (QCSCD) for its members.
The camp featured various sport, cultural and entertainment activities for the hearing impaired.
The support was provided through Sa'id al Marri, a member of the hearing-impaired community in Qatar and one of three ambassadors of the Accessible Qatar initiative.Sasol launched the ambassadors' programme last year to empower individuals with disability and help them play an active role in efforts aimed at facilitating accessibility and promoting awareness.
The other two ambassadors are Kholoud Abu Sheridah, with visual disability, and Ahmad al Shahrani, with physical disability. Through the support Sasol extends to them, the ambassadors work to empower their communities, organise activities that serve them, promote the culture of inclusion and spread awareness about the importance of accessibility in the society.
Sasol provided a large tent that was put up in the camp area where various activities were held. Sasol also offered prizes for 15 competition winners. The prizes were distributed during a visit to the camp by a Sasol senior management team that included Maurice Radebe, executive vice-president; Phinda Vilakazi, president of GTL Ventures; and Jack Saba, general manager of public affairs.
QCSCD Chairman Abdullah bin Ibrahim al Mulla commented,"QCSCD is proud of the social, cultural and sport activities it organises for its members throughout the year to develop their ideas and cultures, help them assume responsibility for and control of their affairs, and promote a spirit of competition, cooperation and teamwork among them."
