US President Donald Trump believes unity among Gulf states in the Middle East is critical and still wants to organise a meeting of Gulf leaders, who are divided by a dispute involving Qatar, a senior administration official said on Monday.
The official said,"The strategic dialogue with Qatar was an opportunity to provide security guarantees to Doha."
The official further said Trump will urge Saudi Arabia to play a leading role in resolving the Gulf crisis.
"We plan to hold a Gulf-American summit next May. Trump believes that the unity of the GCC is important for US interests," the official added.
