Almost 80 percent of the projects related to the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be completed in 2018, the Public Works Authority's (Ashghal) Assistant President Eng Abdullah al Attiyah said on Sunday.
He said the construction plan for development of roads for 2018 and 2019 includes more than 100 projects. About 37 projects for the development of infrastructure in existing residential areas and plots of land for citizens will be launched in 2018 with a total value of QR13.8 billion. The authority also plans to start implementing 18 development projects in residential areas in 2019, with an estimated value of QR18 billion.
He said all projects are progressing as per the schedule and will be completed within the scheduled time-frame.
Ashghal has allocated QR21.8 billion for the implementation of various infrastructure projects in 2018.
Meanwhile, manager of Roads Projects Development Saoud al Tamimi said various projects in 2018 will include 758-km of local roads, development of 27,588 citizen land plots, 1,319-km of sewage and water supply networks and 763-km of foul sewer network.
"Even as some of the works have been committed, there are a few still in the bidding process," he said.
