Qatar has informed the UN Security Council (UNSC) and the UN Secretary-General of yet another violation of its airspace by a military aircraft of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In a letter sent to the UN on Friday, Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations HE Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif al Thani said a military transport aircraft CN-35 that belongs to the UAE violated the airspace of Qatar on Sunday (March 4).
Describing the incident as a severe violation of international law, the message stated that the UAE's continued violation of Qatari sovereignty could escalate tension in the region and it can have severe consequences for the security and stability of the region.
In the letter, Sheikha Alia renewed Qatar's call on the UN to take necessary measures to preserve international peace and security by putting an end to the UAE's continued violations.
The message also said Qatar continues to exercise restraint in the face of such irresponsible and provocative actions, but at the same time condemns any violation of its sovereignty.
It said Qatar maintains the right to respond to any violations, and the country will do whatever is necessary to protect its borders and national security in line with the international law.
On March 10, Qatar filed a complaint over the violation of its airspace by a UAE military transport aircraft carrier on January 14 and February 25.
It also complained about the airspace violation by a Bahraini military aircraft which overflew the exclusive economic zone of Qatar on February 28.
Earlier, Qatar also complained to the United Nations about airspace violations by the UAE aircraft in December 21 last year and January 3 this year.
