A fantastic female French duo Les Missiz was recently in Qatar to perform across various hotels during a six-day visit. The highlight of their visit was their performance Strata Lounge at InterContinental Doha-The City on the occasion of International Women's Day. We spoke to the duo two great friends, Aurelie and Virginie in love with Soul, Jazz and Funk music.
Aur`lie is a blues and soul singer, who has been performing for almost seven years now, first in a cabaret, then in orchestras, while also performing alone. With years of experience, she has captivated audiences with her powerful, warm and husky voice. She finds her world in soul, rock, blues and jazz and loves the repertoire of singers like Janis Joplin, Etta James and Amy Winehouse.
She said she expects perfection from herself."I want to continue pushing myself into giving my best to what I do and I want to be able to leave a musical imprint in the world," said Aur`lie.
Virginia, who is a pop singer, has dabbled in music since she was a child. From an early age, she found her love for singers such as Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson."Growing up, I was able to expand my musical field by turning to soul, while listening to Etta James and Aretha Franklin. I like trying different styles which is why I have been able to perform for more than 10 years in orchestras, in a cabaret, and now in a duet with Aur`lie, said Virginia.
The two met six years ago in an orchestra. They say that they instantly bonded, following which they decided to get together to create music."I feel like we complement each other's voices and styles very well, while at the same time, we share moments singing together, which is our common passion," said Aur`lie.
"Our diverse experiences allow us to complete ourselves on the artistic aspect," Virginie added.
The duo plays songs of many artists but hope to someday be able to create their own music."The future will tell what is in store for us. But, it is definitely a possibility," they said.
Speaking about their visit to Qatar, they said they loved the country and its landscape. They said that Qatar has given them a lot in a little time."We love Qatar. This country is for a dreamer who wishes for their dreams to come true," said Aur`lie.
When asked what qualities were needed to be a performer, they said,"Generosity is the prime quality an artist should have. While one has to have the ability and desire to surpass oneself. Despite the criticism and the hardships that come in an artistic environment, remaining humble is also important," said Virginie.
"Every show is a challenge, and pushes us to evaluate and give our best. Also, to set up this duo was a big challenge. It is now done and we do hope to travel and perform worldwide. It would certainly be the ultimate challenge," Aurelie said.
