The Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev held a bilateral meeting at the Presidential Palace in Sofia on Thursday.
During the meeting, they discussed means of strengthening bilateral relations and prospects of developing them at various levels, especially political, cultural, economic and investment.
HH the Emir and the president of Bulgaria also reviewed a number of emerging issues on regional and international arenas.
Earlier on arrival, HH the Emir was accorded an official reception ceremony.
President Radev led well wishers to welcome HH the Emir.
HH the Emir and President Radev took a tour of the city of Sofia during which the HH the Emir was briefed on the important historical, cultural and heritage landmarks of the city as well as an explanation on the city's developments in various fields as well as future projects.
Following the tour, HH the Emir and HE President Radev visited Bulgaria's National History Museum, where HH was briefed on the most important milestones in the history of Sofia, Bulgaria and the Balkans in general, and viewed various antiquities, old coins, maps and paintings exhibited in the museum.
HH the Emir and President Radev visited Bulgarian Football Federation where they listened to a brief on the federation and had a general conversation on sports and football.
HH the Emir also met with Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borissov. The two leaders discussed means to develop bilateral relations and the prospects for enhancing the joint cooperation between the two friendly countries in different fields.
HH the Emir said the visit will contribute to pushing the relations to wider fields.
He also congratulated the Prime Minister of Bulgaria on assuming the presidency of the European Union current session.
The two leaders witnessed the signing of a number of memoranda of understanding between both countries, including a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of youth and sports, an MoU on cooperation in energy field and an MoU between Qatar University and Sofia University.
A number of members of the officials accompanying HH the Emir delegation and Bulgarian officials attended the signing ceremonies.
Later in the day, HH the Emir left Sofia after a two-day state visit to Bulgaria.
HH the Emir sent cables to Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, thanking them for the hospitality extended to him and his accompanying delegation during the visit.
