The efforts exerted by Kuwait Emir HH Sheikh Sabah al Ahmad al Jaber al Sabah to prevent the escalation of the Gulf dispute were a success, Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khalid al Jarallah said on Wednesday.
"The Emir of Kuwait moved quickly to resolve the Gulf dispute due to his commitment to the unity of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)," said the Kuwaiti official in an interview with a Kuwaiti channel.
Jarallah said that the Kuwaiti Emir succeeded in calming the atmosphere, and not escalating the situation in the Gulf, according to KUNA.
He said the brothers in the GCC countries are aware of the great role played by the Emir of Kuwait.
In response to a question whether the US planned to host Gulf leaders in a bid to resolve the dispute, he confirmed that there were attempts, but so far no invitations have been sent.
Jarallah said several prominent Gulf figures would shortly be visiting the US, amid moves which could pave the way for the convening of the US-Gulf summit.
The Kuwaiti official hoped that the summit will be held and the Gulf dispute resolved."The region is facing very dangerous challenges and we will not be able to face these challenges individually," he added.
Jarallah said that in the absence of cohesion of the Gulf position, the Gulf system will remain weak to face the challenges.
"The US is aware of this and it is seeking, as we seek in Kuwait, to end this dispute and to devote ourselves to face these threats."
