Qatar and Bulgaria on Thursday signed a slew of memoranda of understanding in the fields of energy, sport and youth affairs and education to enhance bilateral relations.
The Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev held a meeting at the Presidential Palace in Sofia on Thursday.
The Emir and the Bulgarian President discussed bilateral relations and the means of developing them in various fields, especially in politics, culture, economy and investment.
The Emir and Radev also took a tour of Sofia where the Emir was briefed on the most important historical, cultural and heritage landmarks of the city.
The Emir and Radev visited Bulgarian Football Federation and heard a brief on the federation.
The Emir and Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borissov held official talks.
Welcoming the Emir and the accompanying delegation, the Bulgarian PM said the two countries enjoy close relations, especially with the continuous communication between officials of the two countries.
In turn, the Emir thanked the Bulgarian PM for the hospitality. On behalf of the Qatari people, the Emir congratulated the Bulgarian government and people on the occasion of the Bulgarian National Day.
The Emir also congratulated the Prime Minister of Bulgaria on assuming the presidency of the European Union's current session.
The Emir pointed out that the two countries are determined to make every effort to support and develop bilateral relations in various fields, especially in investment.
The Emir invited the Bulgarian Prime Minister to visit Qatar, which he welcomed.
The Emir and Borissov then witnessed the signing of a number of memoranda of understanding.
The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of youth and sports and another in the energy field.
Another MoU between Qatar University and Sofia University was also signed.
