Thrilling end to Qatar Shotgun Open 2018 Championship

Rio Olympic Games silver medallist Chiara Cainero of Italy and Czech Republic's former European championship silver medallist Jakub Tomacek came up trumps and wrapped up the Qatar Open Shotgun 2018 with Skeet gold medals on Thursday.
At the Losail Ranges, a big gathering turned up to cheer local star and former Olympics bronze medallist Nasser bin Saleh al Attiyah and other shooters. But last year's silver medallist Attiyah let down them, finishing 25th.
However, the competition in the both the categories was a cracker as Cainero and Tomacek needed to hold their nerve before they sealed it.
Cainero, with four World Cups and one World Cup Finals to her credit, edged French Lucie Anastassiou 52-51 to emerge the champion and take home $7,000. The French, who has been ninth twice here, earned $6,000,
Italian Diana Bacosi, who had beaten Cainero to bag the Olympics Skeet gold medal in Rio De Janeiro in 2016, finished third with 43, after 2016 winner Amber Hill fell out of the medal race at 33. Two Cypriots Andreou Panagioto, the twice World Cup winner, and Konstantia Nikolaou were fifth and sixth, managing only 25 and 16 targets, respectively.
Earlier Nikolaou got the better of Thai Sutiya Jiewchaloemmit, who has won a couple of medals in Doha, to win a place in the eliminations after being tied at 117.
The Men's Skeet final round lit up the gloomy and overcast conditions with Tomacek and Denmark's Jesper Hansen being locked in a shoot-off after finishing the regulation targets with 54 each.
The Czech shooter, who was 19th in the London Games in 2012 and won the European Champions silver medal in 2009, controlled himself admirably despite the pressure and won the title with 6-5 verdict. Along the gold medal, he secured $7,000 for his victory, while Hansen, 18th in 2015 here, collected $6,000.
French Anthony Terras, a thrice champion in Doha who won the 2008 Beijing Olympics bronze medal in four appearances, got the third place with 45 and pocketed $5,000. Italian Riccardo Filippelli, Dane Mikkel Petersen and Kuwaiti Mansor Alrashedi were fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Sheikh Mohammed al Thani was Qatar's best finisher in the event, getting the 12th spot with 120. Rashid al Hajri shot 118, one more than Attiyah to land the 23rd place among 66 shooters.
Qatar's Abdulla Rashdan won the Men's Junior Skeet title, hitting 113. His compatriot Mohammed al Khulaifi was second at 106 and the third place went to Lithuania's Tomas Vaitekunas, who got 100.
The Junior Women's Skeet crown was bagged Lithuania's Alisa Bogdanova. She beat British Madeleine Boyd 112-108. Qatar's Fatma al Muraikhi ended with the bronze medal at 97.
