Minister of Economy and Commerce HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed al Thani paid an inspection visit to the treated water irrigation project for green fodder in Umm Ghuwailina area on Thursday.
The project, which is being implemented by First Agriculture Company, is one of the three projects that have been launched to encourage private sector participation in food security projects in Qatar.
The minster was accompanied by Chairman of Al Qamra Holding Hamad Saleh al Qamra and a number of officials of the company.
The minister and the other visitors were also briefed on the achievements of the green fodder project and the production methods.
The minister also listened to a detailed explanation on modern methods and irrigation systems that use treated water and reduce water consumption. He was also briefed on the latest methods of producing the finest green fodder.
The minister thanked those in charge of the project, which aims at increasing the availability of high quality green fodder in the local market at competitive prices.
On his part, Qamra thanked the minister for his visit and added that the 'First Agriculture Company' has completed the project in record time using the latest technology to enhance production of quality green fodder and help Qatar achieve self-sufficiency in this field.
