Qatar is helping avoid another Gaza war by funneling relief money to impoverished Palestinians, a Qatari diplomat said on Thursday.
"Gaza is on the verge of collapsing," Chairman of Qatari National Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza HE Ambassador Mohammed al Emadi told Reuters in an interview.
"This is what we are preventing: a war, the next war. We don't want the next war. The work that we are doing is keeping peace for both nations," he said.
Emadi said Qatar doesn't support Hamas.
He added that"every single penny" of the Qatari money given to Gaza was monitored to ensure it is spent on humanitarian needs.
"We feed Washington the correct information about what we are doing, and these people ... right away, they are with us," Emadi said.
"Qatar's image is improved, because ... when we tell them what is there on the ground, what we are doing there (Gaza), it is good work," he added.
