toastmasters Division H Area 22 recently conducted its Annual Speech Contests 2018 at Olive International School. Area 22 comprises Konkan Toastmasters Club, ICC Advanced Toastmasters Club, Mindtune Waves Toastmasters Club and Zeal Toastmasters Club. The event was led by Area 22 Director Riana Pinto, and anchored by Vanessa Pearl Pereira, with Jovita Pereira D'Souza as the Contest Manager.
Contests were held in four categories Humorous Speech, Evaluation, Table Topics and International Speech. Several senior toastmasters were roped in as judges, with past Division Governors Manzoor Moideen DTM and Shyam Sundar as Chief Judges. There was stiff competition among the eight contestants in each category.
Sebastian Mascarenhas emerged victorious in the Humorous and International Speech contests. His hilarious speech about his own imaginary death had the audience in splits. Christopher Almeida won the first place in Table Topics and Evaluation contests. Seema Bhardwaj and Denzil Fernandes also won two trophies each, while Tony Sebastian, Girija Chari, Abhay Potnis and Muneer Ahmed shared the remaining spoils.
The fact that each of the four clubs had at least one podium finish showed the intensity of the competition. Top two winners in each category will progress to Division H Annual Speech Contests happening next month.
Division H Director Joseph Stanley felicitated all the participants and the Area 22 Council. Division J Director Venkatesan K and several other eminent toastmasters graced the occasion. Joseph Stanley invited everyone for the Division H Contests to be held on March 16, at the Doha Marriott Hotel. Sunita Saini, Qatar Ambassador for District 20 Toastmasters Annual Conference made a promotional presentation about the spectacular event to be held in Kuwait in May 2018.
The event ended with a vote of thanks by Area official Jaffer Murichandi.
