Despite Deusdedit Muhumuza's deadly six-wicket haul for visiting Uganda, all-rounders Waleed and Tamoor Sajjad grabbed two scalps each to set up a fine 13-run victory for the President's XI in the tour-opening Twenty20 match on Thursday night.
At the Asian Town Cricket Stadium in Industrial Area, President's XI, asked to set the target, found right-arm medium pace bowler Muhumuza too difficult to handle and lost more than half the team in his four overs before putting together a modest 130 for eight in 20 overs.
Waleed and Nafees survived the longest and contributed 31 each in the President's XI total. Muhumuza conceded 26 runs and snared six wickets in his four-over spell.
Waleed and Sajjad troubled the tourists. With help of other bowlers, they went on to limit Uganda to 117 for five, dealing out a big blow to them ahead of the 50-over-a-side match against the home national team.
Captain and experienced Roger Mukasa, who has a T20 half-century to his name against Kenya, made 33. Zephania Arinaitwe got 27 and Hamu Kayondo Bagenda hit 23.
