THE Vietnam Embassy in Qatar hosted a community gathering at its premises on Friday on the occasion of the Vietnamese New Year 2018 (Lunar New Year).
The event was led by the new Ambassador of Vietnam to Qatar HE Nguyen Dinh Thao and was attended by a number of guests including his predecessor HE Nguyen Hoang.
Many of the nationals came in their best traditional wears. The occasion is one of the most important events observed in Vietnam where traditional delicacies are also served.
In his remarks on the occasion, the envoy said that as the new Ambassador of Vietnam to Qatar his leadership will focus on further developing and strengthening the bilateral relations between his country and Qatar in different fields.
"It is an honour to be appointed as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Qatar. Vietnam and Qatar have made significant improvements in the last 25 years and there will be many further steps in time to come. In 2018, the year of 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, we are expecting to organise high level official visit including the Third Meeting of Joint Commission between two countries in order to enhance the bilateral relations in different fields," he said.
"As part of the 25th year celebrations, a wide variety of cultural activities including Vietnamese Cultural and Cuisine Festival and other cultural performances will be organised throughout the year to promote cultural diversity, tourism and artistic collaboration between the two countries," he added.
Currently, there are around 1,400 Vietnamese nationals living and working in Qatar in many fields. The envoy said that he expects the community members to work hard and strive to maintain the good image of Vietnamese labour force and to abide by the rules of the host country.
"Vietnamese nationals are working in many fields. Some of them are researchers and students, engineers, but mostly workers who are working in construction areas and other services. The number could increase in the future. In recent years, the governments of Vietnam and Qatar have been in line with each other to promote cooperation in many fields, especially in labour cooperation aimed at increasing the number of Vietnamese in Qatar," the diplomat also said.
