IAEA praises Qatar for promoting peaceful use of nuclear energy Feb 10, 2018 0 1022 12345 Vienna The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has praised Qatar for its role in promoting peaceful use of nuclear energy in the world.During a meeting with Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organisations in Vienna HE Sheikh Ali bin Jassim al Thani, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano appreciated Qatar's continued cooperation with the agency to promote peaceful use of nuclear energy and its contribution to supporting various programmes and projects of the agency.Qatar has recently contributed funds for the refurbishment of the IAEA laboratories in Vienna.For his part, Qatar's ambassador appreciated the expertise provided by IAEA to Qatar. He also hoped to expand and strengthen cooperation with IAEA in the future to accelerate the pace of Qatar's development programmes and scientific development.Sheikh Ali stressed the keenness of Qatar to continue to support IAEA in enhancing its efforts to prevent nuclear proliferation and to assist member states to benefit from the nuclear technologies and implement their development, economic and social programmes, especially in the fields of food, agriculture, human health and environment protection.
