THE death toll is rising in Syria again. Women and children are among the dead. 23 were killed in Damascus and 31 killed in Eastern Ghouta on Wednesday. Even more died the day before that. Once again I question what the purpose of all this carnage is? When will it end? Will it end when everybody is dead? Is that what the goal is? Because that's what it looks like. It's a frustrating and heartbreaking situation. This conflict continues into another year, and there seems to be no end in sight. All the peace talks and ceasefires barely make a dent in what is happening. The people of Syria (and all other countries experiencing conflict) who just want to continue living their lives in peace deserve better than this. Is there really no way for opposing sides to reach a compromise? Something that all sides will agree on. When I think about how long this war has gone on, I can't help but feel sad and horrible for all the innocent ones that have simply turned into statistics in the growing number of casualties in this war. I hope and pray that future talks will have better outcomes, that there will finally be some relief for those who are suffering right now. Those who have the power to stop this need to do more. The safety, lives and futures of so many people depend on it. We can't just forget about them.
