THOUGH Qatar attracts tourists from across the Middle East for its various attractions, the country has lately emerged as a favourite work destination, especially for Omani professionals.
Talking to Qatar Tribune recently, a number of Doha-based Omani professionals expressed happiness over their decisions to move to Qatar to earn a living citing various reasons, such as"home-like feeling","welcoming host" and"favourable work environment".
Saleh al Hanani, a physics teacher who joined a public school in Qatar a couple of months ago, said that he felt"at home in Qatar" because of the strong historical and cultural bonds between Qatar and Oman.
He added that he also found himself"welcome everywhere" with Qataris"treating us very kindly".
Hanani further said that using his Omani ID card, he can access all the facilities that a Qatari can access. He added that he can benefit from health care and free schooling for his children.
Hanani also praised the standard of public institutions in Qatar."Actually, I decided to come and work in Qatar because of the high reputation of its public institutions," he explained.
Hanani said that he found life to be very interesting in Qatar with abundance of professional opportunities to grow in one's career, adding that many of his friends and acquaintances were either working in Qatar or planning to work.
"I was motivated to work in Qatar by my friends who were already working here," he stressed.
According to him, Omanis in Qatar are working in diverse sectors such as education, petroleum and sports, among others."Around a month ago, Oman and Qatar signed a cooperation agreement in the field of sport," he said.
Besides, many Omanis visit Qatar just to see the country and enjoy the various cultural and shopping festivals that it hosts throughout the year, he said.
"Many of my friends back home want to spend their weekends here. Only recently, I received a friend who came for two days to see the country," Hanani said, adding that the increased flight frequency between Qatar and Oman has also made visits much easier.
Another Omani citizen Faisal al Shaer, who also works as a teacher at the same public school in which Hanani works, said that life is much easier in Qatar than in other countries.
"The public services are very well-regulated in Qatar, which makes life much easier for residents. Right from one's arrival at the airport, one feels a profound system in place," Shaer remarked.
He added,"Qatar also provides the best education in the region."
Shaer further said that he felt very happy about the growing bilateral cooperation and investment between his country and Qatar in diverse fields.
Omani citizen Hussein Abdallah, who works in the oil sector in Qatar, said that he was fully satisfied with his career growth in Qatar and felt comfortable at his workplace.
Abdallah added that Qatar remained unruffled by the ongoing regional crisis because of its strong leadership."Qatar has emerged stronger from the crisis with a clear resolve to achieve its goals," he said.
