THE Social Development Center (NAMA) of Qatar Social Work Foundation celebrated on Thursday the graduation of its first generation of 17 social entrepreneurs in the presence of HE Sheikh Thani bin Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani at Qatar National Convention Center.
HE Sheikh Thani bin Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani honoured the first batch of 'Sama Nama' programme graduates, including men and women selected from more than 500 applicants, and distributed the certificates.
The programme involved three months of work, training and travel abroad for the selected candidates.
Sama Nama programme is a project to develop the capacities of Qatari youth from 18 to 35 years and invest in their energies through a variety of activities that encourage them to come up with innovative initiatives that are in line with community needs.
In this context, the Acting Executive Manager of NAMA Center Maryam Abdullatif al Mannai affirmed the success of the centre's path and its orientation towards the development of the social entrepreneurs, whose strategy 2018-2022 was built to meet the developmental requirements of the different age groups of young people, and to realise the requirements of Qatar National Vision 2030, noting the centre's 11 innovative projects to create an enlightened generation.
Mannai pointed out that Qatar has gone a long way in the field of caring for people as a goal and means of development and that Nama Center, with a wide participation from all sectors, has undertaken to be a key part in empowering youth and employing educational, technical, financial and cultural resources for initiative, innovation and creativity.
Mannai pointed out to the success of the centre's course, which exceeded the expectations, as youth proved great seriousness and desire to work in community, and that they need only those who direct them and give them the opportunity to innovate.
She expressed her hope that the proceeds of this programme and its outputs will meet the needs of the society and its growth, and will provide the community with trained and qualified personnel to manage the development process and lead the executive work.
Sama Nama programme includes several stages. The first stage is internal training through the introduction of several workshops and lectures that promote the concept of social entrepreneurship, in addition to providing workshops to develop the personal skills of the members.
The second stage is the external training or co-existence with the social leadership workers through a practical experience in the UK in order to interact with stakeholders and learn about their projects and benefit from their experiences.
The third stage is dividing students into two teams to work on social projects and a pilot project or social initiative before the end of the programme period. As for the arbitration phase, the projects are evaluated by a committee of elite arbitrators with experience in the field of social work in preparation for their graduation and their work involvement.
