THE Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in cooperation with authorities at all ports, food establishments and restaurants has intensified its campaign to ensure safety of food during the Eid Al Fitr holidays in the country.
The Ministry pointed out that the import of targeted food items for Eid Al Fitr celebrations started in the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan to ensure availability of food items to the consumer ahead of Eid festivities.
Meanwhile, the MoPH confirmed that it imported 156,316,624 kg of food items during the first four months of 2016, of which 1,069,287 kg of food was rejected, 675,576 kg returned to the exporting countries and 393,711 kg was destroyed.
Besides, more than 15 chicken shipments weighing more than 100,000 kg were rejected due to contamination. (TNN)
