DOHA Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) concluded on Thursday its international conference titled 'From Tahrir Square to Zuccotti Park: The Arab Spring and the De-Centering of American Studies'.
The conference was held over four days and concluded with a panel discussion on 'American studies in the Arab world'.
During the discussion, the participants said that the American studies play an important role in deepening the understanding between cultures and religions and promoting citizenship in an open-border world.
In addition, they discussed the importance of the role of Arab universities in building institutional competencies to provide opportunities for collaboration between academics and researchers in the context of an integrated, sustainable and multi-directional intellectual environment dedicated to American studies in a global context.
The participants concluded by launching a global dialogue in support of peace, security and prosperity.
The participants included Dr Melani McAlister from George Washington University, Dr Eid Mohamed from DI. Kambiz Ghanea Bassiri from Reed College and Jocelyn Sage Mitchell from Northwestern University in Qatar presented papers on the topic.
