QNA Doha Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) has introduced facial recognition capabilities, Face ID, in its iOS and Android mobile app, making it the first bank in Qatar to allow the facial recognition technology feature on all smartphone devices. Instead of customers logging into their accounts with their username and password each time they open the QIB Mobile App, they can now use their Face ID to log in in a simple and secured manner. The new facial recognition technology, which is the latest authentication standards to log in to smartphone devices and subsequently the applications, will add further security and convenience for the increasing number of QIB Mobile App registered customers. Using the biometric authentication option, QIB customers can login to their mobile banking app, to manage their accounts, make payments and transfers, have full control on their cards, request a cheque book, or even open a new fixed deposit account, among other banking transactions. The new feature has been introduced as part of QIB’s latest upgrade of its Mobile App, along with some further development that enhanced the performance of the app and improved the user experience with the introduction of the credit card monthly statement. “Since we have introduced the fingerprint login option in our upgraded Mobile App, thousands of our customers use it every day,” said Anand, QIB general manager for personal banking group. “Extending that functionality to facial recognition technology is part of our ongoing commitment to provide a better and upto- the-minute banking experience to our customers through easy and secure features,” he said. The Face ID technology is compatible across all Apple and Android mobile devices that have front cameras. Like all biometrics solutions, face recognition is the latest standard for authentication and offers a new high level of security. According to reports by big technology companies, the next generation of all smartphones will use face recognition feature. The introduction of facial recognition feature on QIB Mobile App will pave the way to more futuristic features such as ‘voice recognition.’ The new state-of-theart app is designed to put the bank’s products and services into the customer’s palm, while providing them with speed, efficiency and most importantly, security. “The QIB Mobile App gives the option to use fingerprint or facial recognition for its biometric login, making it easier and more convenient for customers whether using an iPhone or Android devices to access and manage their financial accounts on the move. However, using the biometric registration is optional, and customers can still use the traditional username and password to login to QIB Mobile App,” Anand said. The innovation by QIB comes as part of its commitment to continuously upgrade its mobile banking app allowing customers to enjoy doing more anytime, anywhere. QIB is working on a new Omni-Channel platform, a multi-channel strategy that allows customers to have the same banking experience across different electronic channels, in a highly secured environment.
