The Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani embarked on a six-nation tour of West Africa on Wednesday, starting from Senegal.
Besides Senegal, the Emir's tour includes visits to Guinea-Conakry, Mali, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Ghana.
In Dakar, the Emir and Senegal President Macky Sall discussed bilateral relations and the ways to enhance them in various fields, especially investment, infrastructure, education, culture and trade.
During the talks, the Senegalese president hoped that the ongoing Gulf crisis would be resolved through dialogue.
Sall thanked the Emir for accepting his invitation to visit Senegal. The Emir thanked Sall and the people of Senegal for the warm reception and generous hospitality.
Pointing out that the relations between Qatar and Senegal are historic , the Emir said Qatar will develop its partnership with Senegal in the fields of oil, gas and sports.
They also discussed a number of regional and international issues, particularly the latest developments on Jerusalem and efforts to combat terrorism.
Later, the Emir and the Senegalese President witnessed signing of a number of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between the two countries.
A cultural cooperation agreement, an MoU for cooperation in field of sports and and another for cooperation in the field of youth affairs were signed.
Earlier upon arrival at the Leopold Sedar Senghor Airbase, the Emir and the accompanying delegation were welcomed by the Senegal President, Senegal Prime Minister Mahammed Dionne, ministers, Qatar's Ambassador to Senegal HE Saree bin Ali al Qahtani, Ambassador of Senegal to Qatar HE Mamadou Mamdo Sall, and members of the Qatari embassy.
The Emir was accorded an official reception. page 16
