THE Filipino community's umbrella organisation, the United Filipino Organizations in Qatar (UFOQ), will be organising a fun run titled 'Takbo Handog sa Qatar' (Run for Qatar) at Rayyan Sports Club on the occasion of Qatar National Day on December 18, starting from 1pm.
More than 1,000 people are expected to take part in the event aimed at showing solidarity with the host country as the entire nation celebrates the important event.
The two-kilometre run will be held around the stadium where Filipino, Indonesian and Malaysian communities will be staging cultural programmes as part of the Associated Activities for Qatar National Day Celebrations 2017 being organised by the Qatari government.
The race will be supervised by members of the Filipino International Triathletes Club Qatar Chapter (FITQ).
"The Filipino community is one with the rest of the country in showing support to the Qatar government and its people on this special occasion. We are glad to be able to contribute to the celebrations through the fun run activity which is an expression of gratitude from our community," said UFOQ Chairman Henry Dimaano.
Assembly time for the race is at 12.30pm. The top three finishers from men, women and children aged 13 and below will be recognised.
The race will be followed by associated events featuring five schools including Philippine School Doha (PSD) and Philippine International School in Qatar together with Scholars International School, Doha Modern Indian School and Olive International School. The programme will start at 2.40pm.
The three expat communities, namely Filipino, Indonesian and Malaysian, will also open up the programme with a grand parade dedicated to Qatar.
While cultural performances in the evening will be held featuring dance troupes and singers from the three communities.
