The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) Doha Chapter recently presented Teyseer Group Internal Auditor Sundaresan Rajeswar with the CA Dilip Thakker CA Professional Achiever Award.
The award was instituted by the ICAI Founding Chairman CA Dilip Thakker in 2014. It was established to recognise Indian chartered accountants residing in Qatar for their exceptional contribution to the accounting/finance profession, industry, the profession and community at large. The purpose is to motivate CAs to work towards becoming exemplary CA professional achievers. The awardee is decided after a rigorous nomination and scrutiny by a five-member award committee consisting of past and current chairpersons of the chapter.
"This year's awardee is a professional achiever and has a story that inspires. He came from very humble beginnings, and his path to becoming a chartered accountant was beset with hurdles. He grew up in rural India, and at the young age of nine, suffered an attack of typhoid which left him with poor eyesight and mental health. Over the years, he battled his deficiencies to complete his Chartered Accountancy and many specialty certifications Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Control Self Assessment Auditor, Certified Financial Services Auditor, Certified Government Auditing Professional and Certification in Risk Management and Assurance. He is presently pursuing a PhD with a dissertation on internal audit in a cultural perspective," said CA George Issac, who represented the award committee.
Rajeswar has been active in promoting the accounting and auditing profession in Qatar. He was the past chairman of ICAI Doha Chapter. He was the founder, director and past president of the Institute of Internal Auditors Qatar Chapter. He is a leader in internal audit and serves on the Global Committee of Research and Education Advisors of IIA, the body which guides the future direction of IIA.
He has honed his speaking and leadership skills with the Toastmasters movement, where he is a Distinguished Toastmaster and is presently the number two leader of the District.
ICAI Doha Chapter Founder Chairman Dilip Thakker said,"Your contribution and dedication to further the cause of the profession and upliftment of numerous people whom you have mentored will always be remembered as unparalleled in Qatar."
Rajeswar in his acceptance speech said:"It is in the name of CA Dilip Thakker that I accept this award with great gratitude, utmost humility, and sincere thanks. Thakker and I were colleagues for 16 years with the Teyseer Group, and he encouraged me throughout to reach greater heights. I am thankful for his generousity, and incredibly kind words."
He also thanked the Teyseer Group management and all his colleagues for support."This award is the conviction that I made a difference in some manner. I know that many are equally deserving. This award stands for the united efforts of many. Even though it has my name in it, I achieved it because of many who were determined to meet the challenges together," he said.
