Qatar Chamber (QC) supported the country's private sector in carrying out its role in preventing the illegal siege from having a meaningful impact on Doha, QC Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed al Thani has said.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of Qatar's National Day, Sheikh Khalifa said Qatar managed to limit the impact of the siege, benefiting from its global economic ties to find new aerial and maritime routes with a number of countries including Oman, Kuwait, Turkey, India, and Pakistan.
QC chairman stressed that the Qatari economy surprised everyone with its strength as country's exports of oil and gas continued uninterrupted.
"The country also managed to make new inroads in trade and opened new markets, in addition to intensified efforts to achieve a high level of self-sufficiency economically,"he added.
"The year 2017 was a busy one for QC, particularly as it hosted a number of events focusing on alleviating the impact of the siege and preventing from spilling over into the local market. The Chamber was quick to hold many meetings with suppliers of basic materials and food products to find ways to supply essential products.
"The country also started diversifying its sources of imports by visiting a number of countries with the goal of bolstering trade ties,"he said.
