The 'Made in Qatar' exhibition will play a vital role in achieving desired levels of self-sufficiency in various products and services, Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al Thani said on Thursday.
Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the fifth edition of 'Made in Qatar' exhibition, Sheikh Khalifa said the exhibition is a leading industrial forum that brings together all Qatari companies and factories under one umbrella and provides an opportunity for manufacturers to promote their products both locally and internationally.
This year's edition is the largest-ever in terms of the number of sponsors, exhibitors and exhibition area, he said.
The only way to achieve self-sufficiency is by developing the industrial sector, he pointed out.
Despite the industrial boom in the country in the recent time, he said, Qatar still has a huge potential to establish factories that add value to the economy.
He noted that the local products have become one of the most important pillars of the national economy and a strong support to economic diversification efforts in the country.
Praising the quality of products displayed at the expo, he said,"The expo matches with the economic policies which are based on openness and income diversity."
Qatar Chamber Director General Saleh al Sharqi said the expo offers a good opportunity for manufacturers and economists to share ideas and exchange expertise.
"Today, we see a galaxy of leading industrial companies taking part in the expo to display their latest technologies and products. The expo is also showcasing Qatar's manufacturing prowess," he said.
Talking about the turnout on the first day, Sharqi said the number of visitors was quite impressive and added that it would continue to rise in the coming three days. Besides locals companies, 22 pavilions have been allotted to representatives of foreign countries including Iran and Turkey.
Besides aiming self-sufficiency, Sharqi said, Qatar also aims to export its products to the international market.
"The exhibition aims to attract more investments in the industry sector and promote the locally-made products to ease dependence on imported items. At the same time we want to promote our products in the global market," he said.
Qatar Development Bank CEO Abdulaziz bin Nasser al Khalifa said the bank has adequate fund to support small and medium enterprises.
Qatari products have made strong presence in the local market, he said, adding that Qatari manufacturers are capable enough to meet the local demand for various products and services
Local industry-owners are playing a vital role in achieving Qatar's economic independence, he said, adding that QDB was committed to supporting local manufacturers in meeting any additional demand resulting out of the economic blockade imposed on the country by the neighbouring countries.
