QATAR, represented by student Abdullah Khalid al Kaabi of Tariq Bin Ziyad Secondary School for Boys, has won a bronze medal at the International Junior Science Olympiad in Amsterdam.
Qatar participated in the competition for the first time with a delegation of students headed by Fatima al Rashed, the head of science division at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education's Department of Educational Guidance.
The competition is the largest scientific event involving talented science students under the age of 16 years from more than 50 countries.
Qatar's students participated in individual and group competitions through a series of theoretical and practical tests. They underwent training in concepts and scientific and practical skills last year, including an intensive training in November.
The competition aims to encourage students from all over the world to develop their talents in the branches of natural sciences and to create friendship from an early age, and to allow the comparison of educational curricula and trends in science education in participating countries.
