THE Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim bin Saif Ahmed al Sulaiti inaugurated the Transportation Cultural Centre in Doha on Sunday.
The mock-up centre replicating a Metro station is located near the Ministry of Prosecution building in West Bay area and aims to educate people on Metro and public transport in Qatar.
Speaking on the occasion Sulaiti said,"Doha Metro will form the vital backbone of the integrated public transport system, supported by other rail based systems like Lusail Tram, to encourage the use of public transport. The transport educational centre will be the central hub where the people of Qatar can learn and discover the many benefits of our public transport system. It is a world class educational facility of the highest calibre to match a world class transportation system the nation can look forward to."
The centre displays all information about the Metro rail network in Qatar and the state-of-the-art facilities of Metro stations. It boasts of an exhibition centre where a short film narrating the different phases of Metro construction and the equipment used in it, will be screened for the public in the coming days.
The centre also displays models of Metro coaches and trams planned for Lusail City, as well as features educational games that will familiarise children with Metro.
"Hopefully, we will entertain the visitors at the centre shortly. We are planning to entertain the students in the morning hours and the general public in the evening. The procedures and timings will be announced by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) shortly," a MoTC official said.
The transport educational centre is not only an exhibition space, but also a state-of-the-art interactive educational centre and vibrant learning space. The centre will be a hub for children, students, residents and visitors, enabling them to witness firsthand the innovation and excellence underpinning Qatar's transport system.
The event was attended by senior officials from MoTC, Qatar Rail and the public transportation company Mowasalat.
