Qatar has called US President Donald Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel"dangerous and unacceptable" and a"flagrant attack on a political solution" to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
This came in a speech by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani during an emergency meeting of Arab League in Cairo on Saturday.
The FM said such a move was a serious escalation and great provocation to the sentiments of millions of Muslims and Christians around the world.
The US move was biased towards the Israeli occupation and served as a great injustice to the historic and legitimate rights of the Palestinians, he added.
The FM said the decision was a clear violation of all agreements and resolutions of the UN Security Council and General Assembly that annul all Israeli actions aiming to change Jerusalem's legal status.
He said Qatar calls on the international community and the UNSC to take necessary steps to maintain the legal and political status of Jerusalem, and help the region avoid further conflicts.
Urging the US administration to withdraw its decision, the FM said Trump's declaration has put the US relations with the Arab and Islamic countries at a crossroads.
Sheikh Mohammed said the move spoiled all international efforts for a peaceful solution to the Israel- Palestinian conflict.

The FM renewed Qatar's firm position in support of the Palestinian issue and the struggle of the Palestinian people who are fighting for their rights recognised by the international community in establishing a Palestinian state based on the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Sheikh Mohammed also called on the Arab League and member countries to form a joint plan in light of the Palestinian issue.
The FM also stressed on the importance of providing all possible legal and diplomatic support to the Palestinians. He also called for not taking US decision lightly as it can become the cornerstone of further steps down the road, posing a clear threat to Arab and Islamic countries and their dignity.
