Vietnamese Communist Party members will be expelled if they are caught"insulting" or"damaging the party's reputation" on~ social media, local media reported, citing an announcement from the party.
In a broadly worded regulation approved by the Politburo, the highest governing body in Vietnam's single party communist, Vietnam's 4.6 million party members must adhere to strict political standards on social media, the Vnexpress news site reported on Thursday.
The provisions include bans on"rejecting Marxism-Leninism" or the"socialist market economy," and promoting"multi-party" democracy.~
Expulsion is the highest penalty that can be applied to party members under its rules.
Vietnam's communist state broadly bans dissent against its rule, although criticism of the government is increasingly prevalent on social media.
