THE Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Qatar HE Dr Bahia Tahzib-Lie along with some Netherlands Embassy staff will be biking at the special bike trail at Doha Festival City on Thursday, an Embassy press release said on Wednesday.
The ambassador is"thrilled about the growing biking interest in Qatar among both young and old, Qataris and expats", the release added. It is noteworthy that the Dutch ambassador took part in the second Ride of the Champions along with her family recently.
"Dr Bahia is also pleased to see the increasing number of safe and dedicated bike paths in Qatar. In the Netherlands, 99.1 percent of the population bikes, including the Dutch royal family and the prime minister, among others. The Netherlands is one of the most bike-friendly countries. There are more bikes than people in the Netherlands," the release pointed out.
The ambassador stated:"Qatar is flat, just like the Netherlands. From experience, I can tell you: both countries are ideal for biking. Biking is a great sport. It is a healthy lifestyle. The bicycle offers freedom to move under one's own steam. Biking is a sustainable mode of transport. I love to share our Dutch enthusiasm for biking and safe, car-free bike lanes. Especially now the weather is becoming cooler, my family and I enjoy biking in Qatar. Biking is simply fun!"
Qatar empowers and stimulates healthy lifestyles in a variety of ways, in line with the National Vision 2030. Healthy lifestyle and healthy population are top priorities for Qatar and the Netherlands. (TNN)
