THE Ministry of Culture and Sports has described the 28th edition of the Doha International Book Fair a big success. The Fair concluded on Tuesday.
Organised by the Ministry of Culture and Sports from November 29 to December 5, the fair saw the participation of 355 publishing houses representing 29 Arab and foreign countries as well as local participations from various government and private institutions.
The book fair was held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center under the slogan 'Towards a Conscious Society'.
The book fair was a major success as it attracted readers who came to the annual exhibition to explore what are on display by the publishers, Minister of Culture and Sports HE Salah bin Ghanim al Ali said in a statement.
"Despite the exceptional circumstance that Qatar is going through, the exhibition managed to establish a communication with book lovers and attract a large number of Arab and foreign publishers," he said.
The minister said the visit of the Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani to the book fair was one of the most important signs of the fair's success, stressing that HH the Emir honoured all intellectuals with his tour of the fair's pavilions and expressed support for the new cultural movement adopted by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in accordance with its vision.
He said the exhibition was honoured by the signing of a memorandum of understanding to support the cultural activities for refugee and displaced Syrian children in Turkey between the Qatar Fund for Development and the Ministry of Culture and Sports to ensure that culture is a right for all and that the book fair is a true portal for spreading knowledge to Arab generations.
The minister thanked all the partners who contributed to the success of the exhibition, notably the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund, the official partner of the Doha International Book Fair, the Qatar Fund for Development and the Qatari Red Crescent Society. He hoped the next edition of the Doha International Book Fair would be a special cultural event to continue raising community awareness and develop mindsets with a new perspective.
