THE Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), in cooperation with the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and National Human Rights Committee, will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights from Friday (December 8).
The three-day celebration will include array of entertaining and informative events for all age groups. It will feature workshops for children, various games and a wall expressing human rights perspectives.
In addition, traditional performances from China, Algeria and Macedonia and Katara Fine Art Symposium will be organised to mark the occasion. Twenty Qatari as well as expat artists will take part in the symposium.
The celebrations will conclude with a concert by Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra on December 10.
Speaking on the occasion, General Manager of Katara Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti said,"The celebration stems from Katara's strong belief in the connection between culture and human rights and freedom. Katara seeks to promote human rights awareness, the spirit of cooperation and tolerance, rule of law as well as peace and freedom among peoples to help societies develop their unique cultural identities."
He stressed that Katara through its diverse and continuous activities provides an array of opportunities for useful dialogue and cultural interaction in an atmosphere of freedom.
On her part, Maryam bint Abdullah al Attiyah, the secretary general of the National Human Rights Committee, said that the celebration came within the framework of involving other social entities in spreading and establishing a human rights culture.
The Director of the United Nations Human Rights Training and Documentation Center for South-West Asia and the Arab Region, George Abu al Zulf called on all citizens and residents of the State to attend the events to take place daily at Katara's Amphitheatre from 4pm to 9pm from December 8.
