Doha will host the Qatari-Sudanese Economic Forum in January, drawing the participation of a number of Sudanese companies and investors, Qatar Chamber said in a statement on Wednesday.
The forum would serve as a platform to discuss the prospects of building new bilateral partnerships between the private sectors in the two countries, it added.
The announcement came at meeting between the Qatar Chamber (QC) and a Sudanese business delegation in Doha on Wednesday. The two sides discussed Qatar's role as a job provider to Sudanese citizens and ways to enhance economic and trade cooperation.
Siddiq Bashir Mohammed, undersecretary to the Ministry of Labour and Administrative Reform in Sudan, said his country was looking forward to Qatar generating more jobs for Sudanese citizens.
There are more than 58,000 Sudanese in Qatar, according to Qatar Chamber, with a majority of them working in the agricultural sector, which is a main pillar of Qatar's economy.
QC Vice President Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Tawar said entrepreneurs in Qatar were keen on identifying investment opportunities in Sudan. The Sudanese-Qatari Economic Forum will be a good opportunity for the Qatari private sector to strike alliances with their Sudanese counterparts, he noted.
Tawar said the private sector in Qatar, which provides significant contributions to the GDP, launched a number of food security initiatives to reduce reliance on imports.
Sudan and its vast expertise in the agricultural sector, he added, have a lot of room to benefit from this Qatari endeavour.
