MOHAMED KHOULAIDI

DOHA QATAR University’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and Qatar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine\ Hospital (Aspetar) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) under which Aspetar would provide clinical training to the students of the college’s human nutrition and sport science programmes as well as supervise their practical sessions.

The agreement was signed by QU Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer Dr Humaid al Midfaa and Executive Manager of National Programme of Sports Medicine (NSMP) Abdul Rahman al Qahtani.

In his remarks, Dr Midfaa said: “This pact will facilitate strong collaborations between the two parties.

We are eager to strengthen our relationships with organisations such as Aspetar in the field of sports and medicine in a way that serves the interests of our students.” Commenting on the agreement, CAS Dean Dr Eiman Mustafawi said: “It is a great honour for us to sign an agreement with Aspetar, the first specialised orthopedic and sports medicine hospital in the Gulf region.

“This is in line with our aim to engage and empower our students during their academic pursuit by building up not only academic capacity but also preparing them to take up leadership roles in the future and be role models for students in Qatar and the region.” “This memorandum of understanding will provide our students with the unique opportunity to be guided by leading experts in the field of sports medicine. It is in line with our objective to provide them with quality education in the form of expert training and mentoring that would contribute to their personal and professional development,” she added.

For his part Qahtani said: “Aspetar provides the highest possible medical treatment for sportsrelated injuries in a state-of-theart facility staffed by some of the world’s leading sports medicine practitioners and researchers.

“Our dedicated staff combine modern methodologies with high-quality technology to enable athletes to build up strong health and to help them with physical management and performance strategies. Our collaboration with Qatar University is a milestone for Aspetar and we welcome the students and extend our full support to them in their academic pursuit.”
