Stenden hosts charity fashion show
MORE than 250 people took part in a charity fashion show hosted by Stenden University-Qatar at the Torch Doha hotel recently. Titled ´Once upon a time in Sharq´, the show presented popular folk tales from the Qatari culture in three separate plays — Ramadan Night (Qarangough), Day of Eid (Ardah) and Henna Night (Jelwah). The main objective of the event was to spread awareness on Ramadan, as well as to raise funds to support social projects through Qatar.

48 die in Syrian shelling on Homs areas
SYRIAN troops pounded several rebel-held districts in the central city of Homs on Tuesday, as the death toll mounted across the country, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. In total, at least 48 people were killed on Tuesday, bringing to more than 120 the death toll over two days, the Britain-based watchdog reported. Two civilians and three rebels were killed in Homs, as clashes raged in and around the neighbourhood of Baba Amr, a former rebel stronghold.
44 killed in Iraq bomb blasts
BOMBS killed at least 44 people at markets in Iraq on Tuesday, and authorities said they bore the hallmarks of sectarian attacks on Shiite Muslims by Al Qaeda Sunni militants. A bomb in a small truck exploded in a market in the city of Diwaniya, killing 40 people, and other blasts killed four more near the city of Kerbala, police and officials said. The Diwaniya bombing was near a Shiite mosque where pilgrims gather on their way to Kerbala to celebrate the birthday of one of their most important imams, al Mahdi, this week.
