The Role Of Free Trade
COLOMBIA and Peru are fast approaching the final stages of ratification of a Free Trade Agreement with the European Union. It is a major agreement that offers a bridge for ever-widening relations and commerce between South America and the Union. And in our age of globalisation such...
BIG GIRLS DON’T CRY
WHEN Nora Ephron graduated from college in 1962, she applied for a job as a writer at Newsweek, was told women weren’t allowed to be writers there, and settled for mail girl. I used that story as a kind of centrepiece in a book I wrote about American women because it reminded me of ...

Cilic may upset Murray apple cart at Wimbledon

THE last time Marin Cilic played on a main showcourt in London, he was roundly booed by a baying crowd and his moment of glory was hijacked. Luckily, that experience last month will come in handy on Monday when the Croatian tries to ambush Andy Murray in ...

Rain relief for Sri Lanka as Pakistan piles up runs
SPAIN have not got to three successive major finals by worrying too much about their opponents but Sunday´s Euro 2012 decider with Italy might give coach Vicente Del Bosque a few moustachestroking moments. The all-pervasive influence of Andrea Pirlo on Italy´s run to the final means Spain know they have to restrict his time on the ball - and ensure they mark the Italian front runners more tightly than many other sides have during the tournament. Del Bosque started without a recognized...
Cancellara keeps yellow but pipped by sneaky Sagan
FABIAN Cancellara of Switzerland held on to the Tour de France yellow jersey Sunday after being pipped at the finish line of the first stage by streetwise Slovakian Peter Sagan. RadioShack rider Cancellara took the race leader´s jersey thanks to a commanding opening day win on Saturday when he repeated his Liege feat of 2004 to claim the fourth prologue win of his career. But despite leaving a gaping hole when he pulled away from the peloton with 1.5km remaining on the 2.4 km-long uphill finish, the Swiss was upstaged by the Liquigas team´s Slovakian champion. Sagan, a sprinter known for his climbing abilities, soon attached himself to Cancellara´s back wheel and for the remaining 1200 metres refused to collaborate...
Political dignitaries land in Kiev to watch Euro final
UKRAINIANS and foreigners thronged Kiev´s specially designated fanzone for ticketless supporters on Sunday, as the atmosphere built towards the final of Euro 2012 between Spain and Italy. Fans arrived in their hundreds in the morning and the numbers steadily built in the main street of the Ukrainian capital, which has been temporarily transformed into a pedestrian area during the three-week championships in Ukraine and Poland. Nearly 160 flights bringing fans of the world game and official delegations were expected at the city´s airport, according to the government´s official competition website. Some fans were wearing red t-shirts in support of Spain´s "La Furia Roja", while other fans of the "Azzurri" were draped...
